The Miracle of Motherhood – Priest Giorgi Karelidze
During pregnancy, a child’s cells pass into the mother’s bloodstream and later return to the child. This process is known in medical terms as fetal-maternal microchimerism.
For 41 weeks, these cells circulate between the mother and the child, mixing and integrating into various tissues. Even after birth, many of these cells remain in the mother’s body, leaving a lasting imprint on her tissues, bones, brain, and skin—often for decades.
Every child a mother carries leaves such a mark on her body and entire being. Even if a pregnancy, unfortunately, ends prematurely—whether naturally or through abortion—these fetal cells still enter the mother’s bloodstream and remain within her. (This is why a mother can never truly forget her lost child, and the emotional weight of such an event often lingers.)
Numerous studies have shown that if a mother’s heart is damaged, fetal cells rush to the site of injury and transform into specialized cells that help repair the heart—or other affected organs.
Imagine that: the child helps the mother heal, just as the mother helps build and nurture the child’s body. How incredible is that?
Many mothers don’t realize that some of their illnesses seem to disappear during pregnancy. This might be due to the child’s cells aiding in the healing process, an extraordinary example of the bond between mother and baby.
It’s fascinating how the mother’s body instinctively protects the child at all costs, and in return, the child contributes to the mother’s healing.
Ever wondered about unusual food cravings during pregnancy? They occur because the child influences the mother’s body to consume nutrients that may be lacking, ensuring both of them get what they need.
Studies have even found fetal cells in a mother’s brain up to 18 years after birth—a testament to the deep and enduring connection between mother and child.
Perhaps this is why mothers have such strong intuition about their children, even when they are far away. Science now confirms that mothers literally carry a part of their children within them for years.
How beautiful and amazing is that?..
